You've found the pair. The colour is right, the price is right. Then you hit the size dropdown and freeze. Are you a 7 or an 8? Does FILA run big? What if they don't fit?
Two minutes with a ruler fixes most of that. Here's how.
First, South African sizes are UK sizes
Shoes in South Africa are sold in UK sizes, and so is everything on fila.co.za. If you're used to EU or US sizing from travelling or shopping overseas, convert before you order. As a rough guide, US men's sizes run about one size above UK, US women's about two above, and EU sizes are a different scale altogether. Always check the FILA size guide rather than guessing.
Measure your feet at home
1. Do it later in the day, when your feet are at their largest.
2. Wear the socks you'll wear with the sneakers.
3. Stand on a sheet of paper with your heel against a wall.
4. Mark the tip of your longest toe, then measure from the wall to the mark in centimetres.
5. Do both feet and go with the longer one.
6. Match your measurement to the size guide.
Between sizes?
It happens to most people at some point. A few things help you decide:
• Think about socks. If you wear thick sports socks, the bigger size usually wins.
• Think about the shoe. A chunky sneaker or a platform with a padded collar can feel snug. A slim, low-profile court shoe has less give.
• Leave a little room. You want roughly a thumb's width between your longest toe and the front of the shoe. Tight now means painful later.
Use the shoes you already own
The size inside your favourite pair is the best starting point you have. Check the label on the tongue or inside the heel. If those fit well, start there.
